Young and cosmopolitan, Berlin will amaze you!
Read on as German influencer Jacky Zelwis breakdowns down all the reasons why a weekend getaway in Berlin is an über-cool travel destination you need to try now.
What makes a good weekend trip in Berlin?
You best come during summertime. Then you’ll experience Berlin at its best!
There are a lot of outdoor activities and events happening and people are in such a good mood. Don't try to see everything at once. I was born and raised in Berlin and still haven't seen everything yet.
Why is Berlin so ëcht cool?
You can find everything in Berlin from beautiful lakes and parks to iconic landmarks and historical buildings, plus a huge party scene.
More than twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city is constantly re-inventing itself as a young, dynamic and cosmopolitan centre. Variety is guaranteed, so you’ll never get boring when visiting.
The best way to explore the city?
No matter what city you want to explore, I recommend you do it by walking or renting a bike. You can also take bus line no. 100 or 200 for a little sightseeing tour - these busses pass a lot of sightseeing spots.
Neighbourhood(s) to check out and why?
To see how diverse Berlin is, you should check out as many neighbourhoods as possible. All the contrasts and mixture of history and Zeitgeist, the broad spectrum of art, culture, music, entertainment and shopping facilities. Each neighbourhood is different. Go explore!
Name fast-paced young and exiting places to visit?
Golgatha Biergarten (a fantastic hidden beer garden in the wonderful Viktoriapark), Klunkerkranich (a funky rooftop bar located on the top of a parking garage in Neukölln), and Mauerpark on Sundays (a great flea market with free karaoke and food in Prenzlauer Berg).
To take time out?
Relaxing areas in nature are not far apart in fast-paced Berlin. Whether in Tiergarten, Tempelhofer Freiheit, Görlitzer Park or Grunewald every district has its “green oasis”, which allows you to take a short break.
Don’t leave without visiting?
Teufelsberg (an abandoned listening station used during the Cold War), Schloss Charlottenburg (a decadent rococo palace) and Savigny Platz (one of Berlin's most appealing urban spots).
A great weekend getaway in Berlin is like jumping into a pool where the water is just right. So, what are you waiting for?
