How to dress for L.A.

If you’re visiting the city of Los Angeles, California, I’ve got the scoop on what to wear - for the big city, the sandy beach or an outdoor music event.

Scroll through to see the looks from Julia Steyns and I - and don’t forget to bookmark your favourites.

In Los Angeles the saying “anything goes” is widely embraced. You can dress however you want, but each area definitely has its own personality and style.

My favourite area is Venice Beach. It has a beautiful, eclectic and laid-back style that blends between surfer and boho chic gone grungy (think festival attire). I especially like the beach and the many great restaurants and cafés like ex.  Intelligentsia Coffee, Bluestone Lane and The Cow's End Café (remember to try their acai bowls!).

Also make sure to check out Abbot Kinney Blvd for shopping and dining.

Visiting Venice Beach, I recommend, you pick and pack some pieces that fit you well and make you feel comfortable.

Julia and I wore mostly easy summer outfits. Like flowy summer dresses, cute shorts and casual yet trendy sleeveless tops. We also wore mini skirts combined with oversized shirts either tucked in or tied in the front.

I also recommend you opt for styles with great attention to details such as oversized pockets, delicate buttons or special cuts. And don't forget to accessorize.

Take at least a few sunglasses and hats with you - they combine function and fashion. Stash a few scarves in your suitcase as well (they can go on your wrist or handbag) and some funky jewellery - plus grab a slouchy satchel purse or bamboo bag.

Finish your outfit with flat sandals, cowboy boots or chunky sneakers, and then head out to take on L.A. in style.
